Improving pharmacy service to COPD patients

20th November 2018 7.15pm - 9.15pm

Oakham Suite 155 Nottingham Road Mansfield NG18 4AE

COPD is a major cause of morbidity in Nottinghamshire and presents a high cost to suffers, their families and the NHS. This is especially true in North Nottinghamshire. Alongside other healthcare professionals, pharmacy teams have an important role to play in improving the health outcomes for patients with COPD.

Within the pharmacy, patients with COPD can receive support to ensure they are following agreed treatment guidelines, receive effective MURs to ensure they understand how and when to use their medicines and provide support to ensure that they get the most from their inhalers. With World COPD Day in November,  HLPs have the opportunity to highlight COPD as a campaign, spotlighting the support that patients can receive from the pharmacy team.

This workshop is open to pharmacists, pre-reg and technicians in Nottinghamshire and the aims are to help pharmacy teams;

  • understand the COPD challenge in Nottinghamshire
  • understand the symptoms and progression of COPD – using the CAT tool for patient assessment
  • identify ways to ensure patients obtain the best from their medicines
  • create a holistic approach to self management – a model for effective MURs
  • maximising the benefit of inhalers
  • integrate COPD into Healthy Living Pharmacy – creating a health campaign.
