The government has implemented the National Dementia Strategy which requires that 250,000 healthcare staff need to have been trained on basic dementia awareness by 2015.
Derbyshire Health United is working in partnership with NHS Health Education England (East Midlands region) to provide free dementia awareness training.
Course content includes:
- Signs and symptoms

- Types of dementia
- Communication
- Follow Barbara a patient with Dementia (video)

The training is at a higher level than the Alzheimer’s Society training – meeting the criteria for level one of the governments Dementia Awareness training and has been approved by Health Education East Midlands as such.
Everyone attending will receive a certificate which has been approved by Health Education East Midlands and carries their logo
We are currently in discussion with the Alzheimer’s Society to see if this training will enable all attendees to be registered as Dementia Friends and receive a badge and book etc.
